After a month of waiting, we are finally underway. Today started early with a 6:00 am wake up time. No actual treatment today but a whole lot of prep, starting with blood work around 7 am, and then a small procedure to insert a central line. This gives easy access to my veins for chemotherapy, blood work, and, of course, the upcoming t-cell infusion. I had it for stem cell transplant and the procedure went well with the best part being the short little post-sedation high and being able to eat and drink coffee when it was over!
After a short break, there were a couple of information sessions to lay out what the next couple weeks would look like, and then a CT scan, done as a baseline to compare to post CAR-T. By 4:30, I was on my way back to the hotel, an hour earlier than schedule.
The central line itself is fine but my neck - where they tunneled in - is a little sore. But beyond that, no worse for the wear.
That’s the update for today, other than to say, coincidentally enough, today marks 14 years to the day of when I first diagnosed. This is what I wrote back in 2011. Interesting.
Day One
I remember sitting in the doctor's office - your garden variety suburban MD office -- and thought: "Is this the place I'm going to hear I have cancer?"
Go Michael!! You’re a winner!
You've got this. And we've got you!
