Drinking is such an interesting subject. Do we drink because we like the taste, the buzz, the societal influence? I might these days have two drinks per week, but dammit, they are tasty.
Depends when you ask that. If you asked me that, say 40 years ago, I would have a different answer than today. I think there's also a tradition and celebration aspect to it.
Absolutely. Cath and I celebrated our 24th anniversary yesterday. Back in fall, she stopped drinking, not that it was causing a problem, rather, just to stop. Last night, she pulled a lovely Shiraz from the wine fridge (which we haven't added to in a year) and we drank half of it. BTW- It was The Prisoner Saldo if you are into wine. It was delicious
Infinite hope is the greatest gift. Life, it seems to me, would feel maybe not desperate but certainly dreary without it. Life without alcohol would be a little bit dreary. It’s not only something to please my tastebuds but also a hobby for me. Wine, anyway. I suppose you would have to weigh the overall risk of a cancer - does it go from low to moderate or from tiny to very low - against the mental health that a pleasurable hobby provides. Moderation being key, of course.
Agreed. The problem is I don’t think there’s been any study that I’ve seen that looked at very low levels of drinking. Is possible they’re out there. But what I’ve seen has always looked at moderate drinking, defined as one drink a day.

How do you decide which day, night, or occasion merits the slightly risk elevating sip? That might be a stress-inducing situation.
It’s a fair question. I tend to save it for when I’m with company, with friends or family and not just because it’s Friday night.

And more to the point,Tony, we should grab a beer soon!
